Impact of the Gold Rush in California in 1848, John Sutter discovered Gold at Sutter's mill. Economicly the majority of the miners made between fifty and a hundred dollars a month. Back then food was scarce but that didn't venders from charging so much at an isolated mining camp. It cost so much because miners had no where else to go. Tons of people swarmed into Calfornia in search of gold like Slaves, Cherokees, Chinese and many other immigrants. As time went on getting rich became very hard because the population kept getting bigger and bigger. the only way you could have been rich was by being there very early.

the route you had to take california in search of gold was very dangerous. three of the routes were overland, isthmus, the cape horn. overland had hostile indian lands and settlers had to cross flooded rivers. isthmus had jungles filled with tropical diseases. Cape horn was a very long journey over wild waters. its always possible that the ship can sink and some people become seasick very quickly.

The settlers came into their land and then gold was discovered. After gold was discovered white people saw the land more desirable. since the indians had a different culture, the white people thought of them as uncivilized and removed them.
