Comments: For the geography of Gold Rush, you need to add what the effect of all those people moving to California was. (What happened to the west coast because of the gold rush?)

trails west

During the manifest destiny, settlers went on a jounry starting at independance, missouri and ending at oregon territory. this trail eventually became known as the oregon trail. the purpose of this trail was to conquer and occupy the entire land mass between the pacific and atlanic ocean. one other trail that started at the oregon trail and ended in californiais known as the california trail. the purpose of this trail just like the oregon trail had something to do with land. the settlers wanted to enable thousands of pioneers to reach the gold feilds and rich farm land of california

gold rush

the route you had to take california in search of gold was very dangerous. three of the routes were overland, isthmus, the cape horn. overland had hostile indian lands and settlers had to cross flooded rivers. isthmus had jungles filled with tropical diseases. Cape horn was a very long journey over wild waters. its always possible that the ship can sink and some people become seasick very quickly. also in the west, it got very crouded and over populated.
